<p>[IMPORTANT: Abstract, method, and results were written using a randomized dataset produced by Qualtrics to simulate what these sections will look like after data collection. These will be updated following the data collection. For the purpose of the simulation, we wrote things in past tense, but no pre-registration or data collection took place yet.]</p> <p><br>Barasch et al. (2014) demonstrated that for prosocial behavior a donating actor’s emotions can serve as a positive signal of moral character, as they are perceived as an honest and direct signal of genuine concern towards others. In a Registered Report experiment with an online Prolific sample (N = 1000), we conducted a replication and extension of Studies 3 and 6 from Barasch et al. (2014).
