Areas of expertise
I am a behavioural ecologist and ornithologist fascinated by the evolution of vocal communication in complex social systems. The study of vocal communication has suffered from strong biases: focus on males, on a few model species and on a few vocalisation types. This has prevented the understanding of vocal dynamics in complex social systems where conflict and cooperation are often mediated by soft calls emitted by multiple individuals close together. I study intra-pair and intra-group vocalisations and the endogenous and external factors influencing them to elucidate general principles in animal communication. Analytical and coding skills Programming languages: R (advanced), Python (basic) Statistical analysis: Mixed-modelling (Bayesian and frequentist - advanced), bioacoustics (advanced), cross-correlations (intermediate), time series (intermediate), dimensionality reduction methods (intermediate), information criteria inference (intermediate), power analysis (intermediate), theoretical modelling (basic), variance partitioning (basic), social network (basic), phylogenetically comparative methods (basic)
